Centurion Safety and the brain injury charity Headway would like to thank everyone who made the first ever Hard Hat Awareness Week a huge success.
The week long initiative, which ran from 21st – 27th September 2020, was launched as part of Centurion’s 140 year birthday celebrations and focused on driving awareness of brain injury and encouraging best practice around safety equipment.
During Hard Hat Awareness Week, hard hat users were urged to be #hatwise and perform an audit of their hard hat to see if it was still up to the important job of protecting their head – with many individuals and companies consequently discovering their hard hats were due for replacement.
The event also featured a raffle to raise funds for Headway with prizes from Milwaukee, DeWalt and Bosch along with hard hat giveaways and radio and social media broadcasts.
Several leading names supported the initiative including amey utilities, HSE network, Skanska, Costain, Strabag, Siemens Energy and CHAS.
Commenting on his company’s participation in the event, Ken Anderson, Head of Governance UK&I, Siemens Energy said: “Siemens Energy were pleased to take part in Hard Hat Awareness Week at one of our sites in Ireland.
“As a result of the initiative nearly 20% of the helmets checked across the project were removed from service. The awareness week proved a timely reminder of the importance of checking helmets for wear & care and expiry date.
Chris Tidy, founder of Hard Hat Awareness Week adds: “We were delighted that the first ever Hard Hat Awareness Week received such a positive response and we are enormously grateful for all the support we received and all the entries to the fundraising raffle.
“The fact that many companies and individuals discovered they needed to replace their hard hats as a result of the event highlights why there is a need for this initiative.
“We are already in the process of planning the 2021 event which looks set to be even bigger and better and we invite anyone who is interested in taking part to please get in touch.”
Hard Hat Awareness Week 2021 will take place from June 14th – June 20th 2021. Please contact Chris Tidy on firstname.lastname@example.org for more details about taking part.
