International Women’s Day 2021 profile: Nadja Weicker

As part of International Women’s Day 2021, event organisers are encouraging people of all gender identities to call out gender bias and inequality and choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements using the hashtag #choosetochallenge.
Here we speak to and celebrate some of the key achievements of Nadja Weicker, Centurion’s Head of Sales (Global).
The theme for International Women’s Day 2021 is #choosetochallenge – what is the biggest challenge you have overcome in your career?
Without a doubt leading my team through the pandemic was one of the biggest challenges of my career so far but also one of my greatest achievements. I am extremely proud of how the team managed and how much stronger we have all become as a result.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
My grandfather was a judge which influenced me significantly because he taught me all humans are the same and he inspired me to want to spread this message.
I never became a judge, but I still have the same values, especially when it comes to leadership.
What piece advice of career advice would you give to your younger self?
Check if potential employers share your values. The benefits of hiring a diverse workforce are crystal clear so I do not believe we should need mandatory quotas for hiring women. Any company or leader who does not recognise the value women can bring to a workforce must watch out because there is no doubt the next generation of females are ready to rule the world.
Why should women consider a career in the PPE Industry?
Job satisfaction. Helping to protect millions of people and ensure they return to their loved ones safely each evening feels like a very worthwhile occupation.
A common complaint from women in industry is that they cannot find PPE that fits because many of the products on offer have been designed for men. What is Centurion doing to address this?
We have an end-user focused new product development process. All our products are evaluated through a “Voice of the Customer” questionnaire prior to their launch. Having a high proportion of women within our organisation also helps to ensure the female perspective is not overlooked. However, we think it is important PPE does not visibly distinguish between women and men at work – women should be able to enjoy products that fit well without making them feel as if they stand out.
